During his comprehensive speech at the APEC CEO Summit in Lima, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a clear and ambitious vision for addressing global economic challenges. Xi emphasized the importance of cooperation, openness, and multilateralism as pillars for building a more inclusive and resilient global economy.
Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting balanced economic globalization. He criticized protectionist and isolationist tendencies, arguing that they hinder economic growth and exacerbate global inequalities. “We must work together to build an open global economy,” he declared, stressing the importance of regional economic integration based on inclusivity and mutual benefit.
The Chinese president highlighted the role of innovation as a driving force for economic growth and social progress. He pointed to China’s significant investments in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and the digital economy. Furthermore, Xi emphasized that China remains committed to sustainable development, fulfilling its climate obligations, and promoting a global transition to clean energy.
Amid rising geopolitical tensions, Xi underscored the need for sincere dialogue and enhanced cooperation among major economic powers. He called on APEC member nations to work together to tackle shared challenges, including post-pandemic economic recovery, supply chain disruptions, and the global climate crisis.
Xi concluded his speech by advocating for the construction of a “community with a shared future,” where nations, big or small, can benefit from the opportunities created through international cooperation. He stressed that China, as Asia’s largest economy and the world’s second-largest, is ready to assume its responsibilities and collaborate with other countries to achieve common goals.
This speech, infused with pragmatic optimism, reaffirmed China’s desire to play a central role in shaping a new, more equitable and inclusive global economic order. While Xi’s vision was well-received by APEC members, its realization will require collective efforts on a global scale.
