Portuguese FM : World Cup 2030… Portugal ‘Proud’ of its Joint Bid with Morocco and Spain
Portugal is “proud” of its joint bid with Morocco and Spain to host the 2030 World Cup, Portuguese Foreign Minister Joao Gomez Carvinho said Friday.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the 14th Morocco-Portugal High Level Meeting, held in Lisbon, under the joint chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, the Minister stressed that this tripartite candidacy is “an opportunity to show the world what our countries are capable of together”.
“Morocco, Spain and Portugal represent two great continents and peoples united for a long time,” he said, adding that “there is no reason why this global soccer celebration cannot show this unity,” especially since this World Cup 2030 “actually represents what the peoples of the three countries can achieve”.
The Portuguese FM said in an address at the opening of the Portugal-Morocco Economic Forum, held on the sidelines of the HLM, that the two countries are bound by strong and solid relations, as evidenced by the number of cooperation agreements signed at this high-level meeting and reflects the importance of the strategic partnership linking both states.
Morocco and Portugal are driven by a mutual desire to strengthen and develop these relations, added Carvinho, noting that this Economic Forum, which was created in late 2021, has given a strong impetus to economic relations between the two countries, and contributed greatly to the rapprochement of the economies of both countries.
Portugal and Morocco have not yet invested all the potential offered by their economic ties, he said, noting promising opportunities for cooperation between the two countries that must be exploited and invested in the future.
