Tangier Med Port: Attempts to Smuggle 745 Kg of Cannabis Resin Foiled, Police

Police operating at the port of Tangier-Med and the customs services foiled, Saturday, two attempts to smuggle a total of 745 kg of cannabis resin seized onboard an international freight transport truck and a car, both registered in Morocco.

The inspection operation of the car, which was about to embark for France, led to the seizure of 650 kg of cannabis resin concealed inside a sugar cargo, the national police (DGSN) said in a statement on Sunday.

A similar inspection operation of the freight transport truck made it possible to seize 95kg of the same drug, hidden in a cargo of agricultural products.

The drivers of the two vehicles, both Moroccans aged 33 and 40 respectively, were arrested by the police.

The arrested suspects were held in police custody at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, in order to identify all persons involved in the case and determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity, nationally and internationally.

This operation is part of the intense and ongoing efforts of the various security services to fight international trafficking in drugs and psychotropic pills, the statement concluded.
