The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces are set to receive Bayraktar Akıncı drones from Turkey in mid-February 2025. This development comes as part of the growing military cooperation between Rabat and Ankara and reflects Morocco’s commitment to modernizing and upgrading its military equipment to address increasing security challenges in the region.

The Bayraktar Akıncı is among the most advanced products of the Turkish defense industry, boasting superior capabilities in both aviation and combat. It has a wingspan of 20 meters, a length of 12.2 meters, and a height of 4.1 meters, with the ability to fly at altitudes of up to 13,750 meters. Weighing approximately 6,000 kilograms, the drone can stay in the air for more than 24 hours, making it ideal for long-endurance reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

One of its most notable features is its ability to carry a wide range of advanced munitions and missiles. It is equipped to carry SOM cruise missiles with a range of 250 kilometers, as well as air-to-air missiles with a range of 100 kilometers, enabling it to efficiently target enemy aircraft. Additionally, it is integrated with advanced artificial intelligence systems that allow it to make independent decisions and accurately identify targets, significantly enhancing its effectiveness on the battlefield.

This acquisition follows Morocco’s successful integration of 19 Bayraktar TB2 drones in 2021 and demonstrates the kingdom’s commitment to strengthening its aerial and strategic capabilities. The Bayraktar Akıncı is expected to bolster Morocco’s defense capabilities and provide advanced support to the Royal Armed Forces in various missions.

The expanding military cooperation between Morocco and Turkey highlights the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and their shared commitment to enhancing security and stability in the region. Given the ongoing security challenges, both nations are expected to continue strengthening their collaboration in defense and military technology.
