The Kingdom of Morocco: A Call for Peace and the Need to Respect the Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Only two days before the Gaza ceasefire agreement comes into effect, the Kingdom of Morocco reaffirms its steadfast position in supporting peace and justice in the region. Under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, the Kingdom continues to express its deep hope that this agreement will mark an important step toward ending the escalation and violence that has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, which has resulted in hundreds of victims and caused widespread humanitarian suffering.

The Kingdom of Morocco, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizes the necessity of giving peace a genuine chance. It calls on the Palestinian and Israeli parties to demonstrate political responsibility and sincere commitment, free from narrow political calculations or short-term interests. The Moroccan position, reflecting a strategic vision for the crisis, underscores that the only path to lasting peace lies in respecting the basic rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In this context, the Kingdom expresses its deep concern that the ceasefire may remain merely a temporary truce, failing to bring about meaningful change on the ground. Therefore, Morocco urges all concerned parties to fully respect the terms of the agreement, especially with regard to halting attacks on civilians, enabling the safe return of displaced Palestinians, and ensuring the urgent and adequate delivery of humanitarian aid.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in his recent message to the Arab Summit, emphasized the importance of not allowing the cycle of violence to repeat itself, and that emerging from the current crisis requires a true commitment to practical steps toward peace, rather than mere temporary solutions. In this context, His Majesty views this agreement as a starting point for a long and complex journey toward a comprehensive and sustainable solution that fulfills the Palestinian people’s aspirations for freedom and dignity, while simultaneously ensuring the security and stability of Israel.

The Kingdom of Morocco’s position reflects a firm commitment to the principles of justice and peace, and affirms that the Palestinian crisis is not merely a regional issue but a humanitarian matter with international dimensions that requires genuine agreements contributing to achieving a fair and comprehensive peace.
